What is BehaviourScan™
- To understand shopper behaviours in the store/in front of shelf is fundamental for developing sales strategy and tactic. However, due to the limitation of traditional consumer research method, most of marketers still don’t know much about how shopper behaves in the store/in front of shelf.
- BehaviourScanTM is a new shopper research tool innovated by Zdology to explore shopper behaviours in the store. Using BehaviourScanTM, we can get concrete data on shopper behaviours in store and in front of shelf, as well as their contacts with different merchandising tools. This set of data, (usually together with shopper survey data from Entry & Exit Interviews), offers clients and researchers a solid understanding on WHAT REALLY happens inside the store.

How BehaviourScan™ works?
Design a shopper behavior tracking sheet according to the specific project purposes
BehaviourScanTM operates through a set of video record facility installed inside store. By those hidden cameras installed in different places & shelves of the store, shopper in-store behaviours can be observed from different angles and be recorded down automatically.
A team of analysts will response for the video record analysis. By using a professional, the analysts can target the research shoppers and note down each details of them on a structured tracking sheet
A comprehensive SOP (Standard Operation Process) is developed by Zdology to manage the operational quality and store negotiation details

Why BehaviourScan™?
- Reliable
The traditional method for shopper research won’t out of accompanied shopping and mystery following, saying, a trained accompanier or follower shops together with targeted shoppers, observing behaviours and sometimes asking some questions. However, it’s unavoidable that accompanier’s behaviours and questions will leave impacts on shopper behavior, and it will be in a hurry for accompanier to note down shopper behavior details. All these would thus cause bias on the data quality. BehaviourScanTM overcomes this problem. By replacing accompaniers with hidden cameras, shoppers’ whole shopping trip won’t be intervened and data we get will be no doubt reliable.
- Quantifiable
Quantified data is critical for clients to make important decisions. However, traditionally shopper behavior can only be observed qualitatively and data is not representative. Instead, by using BehaviourScanTM, shopper behaviours in store can be quantified since normally the mass of shoppers will be recorded down and each of them can be measured.
- Integrated
Since we can still interview the shopper at the entry & exit of store when we record shopper behaviours, we can integrate what we see and what we hear from the shoppers to get comprehensive understandings on their behaviours and attitudes.
